The Department of Immigration and National Registration through the Law Enforcement Division recently conducted two operations dubbed 'Operasi Panyap' targeting two separate locations in the Brunei Muara District, in which five people were detained under the Immigration Act, Chapter 17.
Four foreigners were apprehended at a house in Mukim Serasa for further investigation after failing to produce valid documents. One of them was believed to be abetting in immigration offence, while three others were working with a different employer. In a separate operation at a business complex in Mukim Gadong 'A', a foreigner was detained for soliciting alms.
Meanwhile, a Malaysian man was sentenced to 4 months imprisonment and 3 whippings after pleading guilty to entering the country without an immigration pass, and failing to produce his passport to the on-duty Immigration Officer when entering the country. The sentence for Ngu Choon Chin took effect on the 17th of July.
